It rained for hours on end. She hid in her room, probably
slouched over her musky-smelling bedsheets, lighting
strands of hair she’d lost on her pillow while sleeping. One
by one, minuscule sparks of light appeared as her hair dis-
appeared into nothingness. The smell of smoke penetrating
her nose, reminiscent of the flames that had towered in the
bedroom years prior.
