The Buikslotermeerplein boxes are part of a photographic series offering an everyday perspective of the Buikslotermeerplein in Amsterdam Noord. This series explores corners and choreographies of the public square, which is dominated by a two-storey parking lot, a former bowling alley, serves as a gateway to a shopping mall and is also home to a local market. This culmination of conspicuous buildings brings upon the question: As we walk around urban landscapes, where do we actually find ourselves?
Passing moments are captured bringing closer elements of public spaces which may be pushed into the back of our minds as we move through them. By returning the three dimensional element to the flat photographs, the objects and buildings regain a dimensional value, which in collective installation forces the viewer to maneouvre around them. This allows a different perspective onto the public square as people know it.
