a late afternoon wander with the pony and the funnel (htebs)
2026

2-channel video, 30 minutes 47 seconds

A late afternoon wander with the pony and the funnel watches object samples from the Douane Lab escape into the Sloterdijk neighbourhood and parking lot of the Rijksvastgoedbedrijf. With their new found bodies and autonomy, the two object samples, the toy princess pony and the stacks of funnels, play around and dance with each other.

The video work is an exploration of unconventional movement, liberating two objects from the laboratory, giving them a personality and the ability to move around. It shines a focus on two, of many, objects spotted at the Douane Lab during a visit in a playful manner to remove them from their laboratory purposes for just a little while.

This video work traces the paths of the items and people who go in and out of the Douane Lab on a daily basis. It is an attempt at rerouting the landscape surrounding the Douane Lab and its parking facilities and bringing a new perspective of the surrounding environment that staff from the Douane Lab pass through to go to and from work or spend their lunch breaks.

The two videos are synchronised for 23 minutes. What is seen happening on one screen is happening simultaneously on the other from different perspectives.
